WAR04 (Free verse) by Jody Conn
Young pawns die on crimson sand, As old men bluster and make a stand. Spinning “…freedom, rights and noble deed…” While lining pockets and feeding greed. They tally the dollars, we tally our dead. The one constant being, the machine remains fed. Oh heinous act, oh mortal sin, Killing the future while nobody wins.

Up the ladder: She wishes
Down the ladder: mask; an infidelity
