I held the telephone tightly
As anger roared through my body
Like the locomotive of a tornado
Just before it rips through town
Indignation lapped in waves
And mingled with all the unshed
Tears Iâd never cried; with all the books
Weâve ever read there is still no
Understanding between any of the pages
Youâve never seen the rough white scars
Gouged so deep that every cry
From a world of broken children could
Fill me up and still have over-flow
You werenât there on the first day
When the dark shadow crept into my room
You werenât there on any day in between
When fear and tears were the only weapon
You donât understand the guilt that has bound me
Like the most ancient of sarcophagi
In a tomb filled with broken homes,
Regrets and far too many lies
So many words never spoken
Even more misunderstood
And the plate spilled over and
All the past came rushing in
And still you didnât understand
That all the broken children
Would never be able to live
Through all those fears a second time
