Black Rose (Free verse) by arduinn
A single rose you presented to me,
So deep and dark black seemed likely;
Oblivious to the sign fate had sent me,
With a smile, I accepted it gladly.
Not free of thorns, thus it pricked me,
Stealing blood to sign my destiny;
"Now you are mine, one and only,"
Through my mind you spoke softly.
Captivated a look, charmed with you,
Breathlessly I replied, "So mote it be."
But never again will I give my heart away as readily,
Only to be treated so carelessly,
Never again will I trust as blindly,
Simply to be betrayed and left empty.
I gave my heart but for love fallacy,
I sold my soul for promised immortality;
What use is it now without you here with me,
Trapped in this web I weaved,
Without entity, forever, for eternity....
