Universal Vigil (Free verse) by Lenore
A life time of neck strain, watching the stars dance where they live,
lived and died.
Midsummer indigo splattered in silver,
waiting and hoping for the vast expanse to reveal its intelligence.
Worthy of every ache and chill I am beckoned beneath you.
A thousand wishes cast upon flaming debree
for a moment ride silently, to wink out forever.
Did you wish for me as I did you?
Fading; we too, must in our own appointed stations, spin and burn out.
How cruel that only the brightest ones are remembered.
How painfully true; time steals all but the best.
No promises made or kept, we are alone.
When these patterns shift in their stations
and morning raises her dewy veil,
I return to you beneath my feet
well grounded in my resolve
to know
to see
to understand
why.
