The Long Walk Back (Ode) by Jigg

Caped, I walked twixt the night Guided only by moonlight Against the wind, her icy blast A forceful shadow, I did cast Upon the gate my journey came And against my judgement, I was swain I push'd open the wooden stile And inside a sight thou would'st revile Mine eye flitted to a fro From wizen'd hag and pitch black crow From spectral visions and potions bound My mind could not wrap around Such gazes of this terrible coven The air grew warm like in an oven I turn'd 'pon my heels and went to flee But they swoop'd and they prevented me To the floor, myself did spill And their cackling it did shrill And closing in for the kill Knives they raised, with gleaming hilts And then?...Awake in my bed These visions had all just been in my head But just one thing remains unsaid How can one dream when one is quite, quite dead?
