Beggar (Free verse) by MacFrantic

Beggar Beggar Tarred and feathered Traipses through The muggy weather Lifts his hand to wave A passer Snorts and struts To greener grasses Far from rough Untempered folk Where babies bathe In yellow yolk Beggar Beggar Mind a-whirl Travels on To something rural Day by sunlight Night by stars Beggar longs For boulevards Carriages And smoking barrels Summer's eye And Christmas carols Beggar Beggar White as ash Buries coin And burns the cash Finds his life Utmost befitting Spurns the rich Ignores their spitting Home again A beggar mourns Couldn't save The harvest corn Finds a fate Too many meet Pitched and plumed 'Round Reaper's feet

Too much emphasis on the word beggar. And yes, it rings quite clear that this beggar wants to remain a beggar.

I like the half rhymes you use.... but still think you could come up with something better than ...'travels on to something rural.'
