An Interview With King David (Prose Poem) by amanda_dcosta

King David loved the Lord passionately. I was always intrigued by his deep love for the Lord that I decided to call on him for an interview. We were there on the dot at our meeting place. Me: Good morning, King David. It is indeed an honor to be here with you. K.D.: I’d love to anytime. It’s just that I haven’t spoken to anyone in a long time. I feel odd to be out here. How do I look? I take a good look at his attire. Dressed like another other guy, Blue jeans, T-shirt, track shoes. Me: (Smile) You look terrific. I hope you don't mind a few question coming your way. He prays in silence and after a minute or two he turns to me, ready for the interview. I order us a coke each and some snacks. Me: So King David, tell me, how long have you been in love with the Lord? K.D.: As long as I’ve known Him. Me: And that would be….? K.D.: Yeah, to be specific, I was a little boy, way back then, taking the sheep into the pastures to graze. You know the story! Me: (I remembered that part.) But what was it that made you face Goliath? K.D.: Them mocking my God! You think I’d sit watching those Philistines make a fool of my living God. I pledged allegiance to Him and I stick by my promise. Me: Still, no man had seen great courage at that time, till you, a young man, came on the scene. You must have had a lot of faith then. K.D.: You could say that. After Prophet Samuel anointed me, I had such a burning desire to please the Lord, that nothing could prevent me from expressing my love for Him. Nothing, absolutely nothing! Me: (Smile). I think I know what you mean. Could you tell me what made you dance in front of the Lord wearing almost nothing. K.D.: (Smiles a big grin). You know, when two people are in love, they do almost anything weird. This was a special moment for me…. with the one I loved. Love is blind, as you’d say, and my spirit was totally unaware of my surroundings. As I said, nothing could stop me from expressing my love for Him. It was more like, my spirit in love for Him, dancing in ecstasy. Me: What made you have such faith in God? K.D.: It was my love for Him. Faith doesn’t come all in a day. Before I fought the Philistine, I tested it out and grew when I fought the lions and bears in their attempt to steal our cattle. I’d say faith is more than believing, it is an exercise, something you are willing to stake your life on. Me: ‘The Lord is my shepherd’ is a beautiful psalm, apart from the numerous others you’ve written. What made you write it? K.D.: Whenever I took the sheep to graze, I’d picture myself as one of the sheep walking behind its Divine Shepherd. This was my idea of total dependence on my God way back then. I’d follow Him wherever He took me and not worry a bit because He would be there with His crook and His staff to comfort and protect me. Me: What message would you like to give to this modern world? K.D.: Always love the Lord and seek Him in all you do. You might have to run with the Lord all your life, as I did, but then in the end you will realize that He is your only help. Nothing else can make you survive except the Lord your help. Give Him all you are. Me: Thank you King David. I’m a new person inspired by one of the greatest lovers of the Lord. I hope you’ve enjoyed this interview. K.D.: Yes, I did. And by the way, what is this? Me: It’s coke. K.D.: Aah! I’m glad you invited me over. (Grins) I bet Peter must be wishing it were him here instead of me, drinking this new fizzy stuff. We both grin.
