"The title is overused!" (Free verse) by vulcan

1 "The title is overused!" My professor said. Four days, Day and night, Day and Night In light,in Darkness I tried to write A poem that my name immortalizes Bids men before my laurel bough Fall to the ground, immediately bow! "The title is overused!" So my professor said. 2 Out in the street Bacchus found me 'lone, Hands in pockets, scratching my po'm. Only he made a quick bow "Come!Leth-ward we'll go!" There by its shore,I saw Dull-Gazes,Arms-Akimboes, Yielded-Heads,Dancing-Legs Sardonic-Smiles; All detached, disillusioned, dismissed! Big Lies! "The title is overused!" So my professor said. 3 It all happened overnight I saw a girl from behind! Pure-as -snow her legs Seductive her girlish glide. I pressed her hands theatrically "Non sum qualis eram bonae sub regno Cynarae I have been faithful to thee,Cynara!in my fashion!" Thus in melancholy getting too far! A childish cry A slap in the face A gust of blood "Thunder and Lightning!" The girl was seven years old! 4 "Pah,boy!come!I know what you want Your reward lies in the fair house there!" But... I stepped in there Lo!Pure-As-Snows everywhere! Without any theatricall effect I was invited to a bed Saw Purity there stretched Hymean hymn was all could be heard! 5 Overused my title that night Next day could not leave my bed For a week dead sick! For another grave melancholy The day after all these Quite another man. 6 The world is not fair I'm not happy. Women worm-like move God is somewhere asleep. I don't mean to be anything, "The King is a thing... Of what? Of Nothing!" 7 Today the wind has a kindly touch "Lilacs out of the dead land"have fairly bloomed; Yet these things I can hardly watch For My Day is in a mysterious nook, restless entombed.
