black dog (Free verse) by wilco

Coarse hair of black and brown Confiding in the lamplights glow. Home was somewhere long ago; Remembrance coming loosely. Rain and cold they slow the blood and make for awful company. Oil slick and chasing shadows; befuddled by the rainbows. Red on black and silent still, She never saw it coming.

Is it from the dog's pov? The "red on black" line makes me think it's an old dog, and the master needed to kill it as we do with old dogs.
