1. I would estimate the utility of an rss feed of comments-recent.jsp?showall=true to be at least forty times greater.

2. The source for Falling Up doesn't do squat on its own, and the data isn't provided except in Windows/OSX packages. How in fuckery is one supposed to play it on Linux?

1. http://www.livejournal.com/users/prank_comm_all/ or http://poemranker.com/comment-recent.rss.jsp

2. I haven't gotten around to it myself yet, but you'll need opengl and/or mesa, openal, and ... the data files from one of the other packages (sound and graphics). :/
1. Delightful!

2. Are you planning to make the data available separately?

3. Speaking of Falling Up, Shel Silverstein was the most swarthy man ever to have lived: http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0060256737/ref=sib_rdr_bc/002-0411426-6994451?%5Fencoding=UTF8&p=S005#reader-link

I heard Uncle Shelby's actual voice just this weekend - 'twas not at all like I imagined though it is certainly "fun" sounding.

He sounded about as swarthy as mike tyson.

btw, he died in Key West... actually, the anniversary for that is coming up next month (10th).

If you care.

2. I could, but it's all there in a ... oh, no it's not. Right. Sorry. It used to be all there in an easily accessible format and then I figured out how to make packages and installers and whatnot.

Yeah, I'll get to that. :)

should compile with the appropriate libraries installed (dev versions, so as to have the headers to compile with). You will need ... openal, glut, and opengl/mesa.

the above has the appropriate files in (I think) the appropriate places (the data).
404, nentwined. 404. I hope you're satisfied. *weeps*

wonderfully satisfied. :)

erm.

It was only supposed to be two zeros in the link:

http://erif.org/code/fallingup/code/fallingup004.tgz

/me tests link

all good.
You need to change 'alutLoadWAV' to 'alutLoadWAVFile' on line 245.

Funny.

On debian I had to change it from alutLoadWAVFile to alutLoadWAV.
I am using Debian. Sarge though, maybe you tried it on Woody.

Other points:

1. The sounds are really quiet.

2. The delay before the key repeat starts is gay. I realise it's probably just taking the events from the keyboard as they come, so it wouldn't be completely trivial to change, but it slows the pace down and forces you to hammer the direction you want to go in.

3. Level 9 was called 'Plain Jane up', but the pieces were falling down. Level '10' was called 'Another level of up' or something, which implies level 9 was supposed to be upwards.

4. The first time it went upside-down, I felt ill.

5. It might be good to have a visible barrier at each side of the screen, since when the pieces are quite high, unless you constantly check the yellow line at the bottom, it's easy to accidentally leave a giant empty column at the side.

6. It would be better to have two rotate keys, since trying to hammer the rotate button three times as well as hammer the left button when you have an L-shaped block and you're near the top of the screen can only be described as unbelievably appalling.

7. When you try to rotate an L (or J) -shaped block with its long side against the wall, it would be better if it automatically shifted away one and then rotated, because otherwise you try to rotate it 2 or 3 times before you realise what a colossal oaf you're being.
