I think this site should have a weekly poetry contest or something. Let us know who really has talent

This has got to be the dumbest system for rating poetry that I've ever seen. Anyone who wants help with their poetry would do best to go to a critique forum where there are helpful suggestions and honest non-numerical opinions. I've deleted my poems and wont be returning. To anyone who is interested I highly recommend The Critical Poet poetry forums.

Nothing wrong with the critical poet poetry forums, btw - or this; it's two separate animals.

Its just aht This Animal has more, and sharper teeth - and there ain nuthin' wrong with that.

That's funny. I don't recall reading your poetry, or you to begin with.

I've been laughing at the "asshole" name up there for a couple days now - since the user is deleted, I'm pretty sure nentwined hardcoded it there.

cracks me up, something I would do.

What I perceive as unfair is the rating system
and the criteria that determine a poem's average
number. Most new poems are on the first page very
briefly and do not receive the necessary votes to
legitimately qualify for consideration. I don't
believe it effects me as I doubt my poems would
rate high enough regardless of the system's fairness
but I have read several that probably would.

An example is my latest poem, "duality". I have received
3 or 4 ratings that average out between a 7 and 8 but I
know it will not receive enough votes to make it
competitive based on merit only. Again, I doubt mine would
compete for a top 15 position but there are some out there
that would and never have the chance....and why have
anonymous voters for it basically compromises the integrity
of the whole system.

poems all get a piece of the pie on the random page -- poems that have least recently gotten votes are the most likely to show up.

it's a slow process, but that's because the site doesn't get enough users, really.

what would you have of a place that calls itself poem *ranker*? especially with that dorky 0-10 scale in the logo?

(I like the logo)

What's wrong with it - nice and clean - you wanna get flashy then you'll have to change the whole site.

Nice and clean it is. I'm not much for design. I'd like to be better, but I'm simply not as of yet. Poemranker was a lucky fluke, imo. Especially for its time. Have you zoomed back to the wayback machine of Jul 8 2001? http://web.archive.org/web/20010708204817/http://www.poemranker.com/

Long shot this one but if you wanted to know who had talent you could always try reading a few poems!!!
