What the fuck is Rockmage's problem? bored?

It took him just over half an hour to give zeros to all of my 127 poems. I so much appreciate his careful reading of each one before voting.
anonymous @ 24.165.207.93 > Dovina | 24-May-05/1:28 PM | Reply
Yeah, same here. It pissed me off at first but then I realized that most of them probably deserved zeroes.
Dovina @ 69.175.32.185 > anonymous | 24-May-05/1:53 PM | Reply
No they didn't. But at least we know he votes without reading. Maybe I could write a program that gives every poem on Poemranker a 10. I could just let it run all night, instead of spending the hours rockmage spends, and negate all his effort. Think of all the thank-you 10's I'd get. I'd be tops on the
Best list!

The fact of the matter is simply: who cares? If you care enough about what an aging hippie thinks about your writing, then you've got bigger problems than a 0.

We're all here for the same reason. Basically, because noone else will spend the time to read the crap that we all mass produce. Therefore, we post it on The Ranker.

Although it does tend to make me feel all tingly inside when I get positive feedback on something. ;0)

Voting a 10 on a poem doesn't negate a 0 someone's just voted on it. You should know better.
ingwa @ 212.139.98.86 > anonymous | 24-May-05/3:26 PM | Reply
I do not feel that any work deserves a 0. You have spent time on it, you have put your heart into it. It is not a failure, there may be room for improvement but it's not worth 0!
nentwined @ 64.60.192.130 > ingwa | 24-May-05/4:34 PM | Reply
what if they didn't spend time on it, or put their heart into it?

what if their heart should be taken out back and shot?

you presume good intentions, I think, in the above comment.
ingwa @ 212.139.98.86 > nentwined | 24-May-05/4:39 PM | Reply
If they didn't spend time on in then it's a copy. Surely? If a brain is being used to compose words, no matter what they actually might mean, surely that's work? Additionally typing is work. At least a 1 then maybe. but not 0. Additionally, who are we to really judge whether someone has worked or not? Are we teachers? Do we join this site just to slate other peoples work? I don't think so. I joined this site to hear from other people to know what they think, where I can improve, etc. Not to hear this is shyte without any explanation what so ever.

A lot of people join just to say something's shit for no reason whatsoever.

A lot of people join just to post their work and get pissed if they get anything but praise.

Takes all kinds. :)

As far as "who are we", we are the denizens of a site that styles itself off of Hot or Not. ;)
ingwa @ 212.139.98.86 > nentwined | 24-May-05/4:49 PM | Reply
Just for the record Nentwined, you will notice from the comments I have received and the responses given to them that I certainly don't post my work just to get praised. I have re-written some of my work and had to lose okay votes because of it. However, rockmage just goes about failing everything without actually giving a damn about why it was written (oh, except for your glorious work). I just think it's unfair that this site praises itself on that sort of behaviour. It's certainly not looking at what's hot or not, it's who's in who's pants...and it's just pants. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is a very strong impression that I'm getting...along with other authors.
nentwined @ 64.60.192.130 > ingwa | 24-May-05/4:52 PM | Reply
It is pretty much just pants, here.

No regulation.

Rockmage isn't the only one that goes on zero streaks. And people also go on ten streaks. People create multiple accounts and vote themselves up. The list goes on...

I don't know what's stupider, that people care what votes their poemes get, or that I'm surprised that people who post on a site called "Poemranker" care what votes their poemes get.

None of your above statements is true. For an example, I am a teacher.

"Are we teachers?" statement!!!??? Nice!

Please describe how any of the statements above, or below, are demonstrably false*.

Additionally typing is work
I don't think so
I joined this site to hear from other people to know what they think, where I can improve, etc

*Without the complicity of the original poster

I'm concerned about where this comment will show up, late in the game as it is. But nentwined, do you really think, as you seem to imply, that rockmage reads the poems he votes on at the rate of about four per minute?
nentwined @ 68.232.253.181 > anonymous | 24-May-05/6:49 PM | Reply
I never implied that he did, though I defend the hypothetical--it's easy enough to figure out in 10 seconds whether you want to read a poem any further.
Dovina @ 17.255.240.138 > nentwined | 25-May-05/10:26 AM | Reply
I understand your support, but please do it in the real world. Even with a fast system, I find no time to read a poem in the time he spent, after opening the poem, voting zero, going back to the list. Do a test.
nentwined @ 64.60.192.130 > Dovina | 25-May-05/10:32 AM | Reply
Mind you, he claimed he'd already read them all.

It is possible he has been over-fellated by his fanged, pre-sapien girlfriend and is merely venting on us the rage he feels at not having a working penis anymore

I know, he's like the Simon Cowell in poetry. He's sometimes very relentless and I wonder if he actually reads the poem or just an automatic <0>. I briefly skimmed through his rating for each poem and apparently he gets a big fat <0> too. So I dont think he should be giving zeroes to pplz. "Think about yourself before judging others Rockmage!"
anonymous @ 81.178.197.159 > anonymous | 8-Jun-05/3:07 PM | Reply
There is a critic of fine repute. He can throw a line with the best but is a terrible poet. He feels compelled to award the chapbooks he is given to read high marks because their poetry is better than his own. Some of these books are mediocre. Do you think this is a good thing. Do you think his opinion can be taken seriously. Is it not better for the reader that he is.
anonymous @ 70.68.76.244 > anonymous | 8-Jun-05/7:09 PM | Reply
I dont think we should take his opinions seriously. In his eyes, all poems deserve a 0 or the highest, 5 I've seen. He is just a relentless, cold-blooded, hideous BEAST!!

If you use W. B. Yeats or T. S. Eliot or P. B. Shelley (or whoever) as an example of a 10, nothing in this site is ever going to get above 1 or 2. If you count the best poem on the site as ten, things are different. It all depends on perspective.

Paradise Lost = 10. The Waste Land = 9.75. Whiney mumblings of soulless californians? Maybe a half.

The Waste Land? For crissake, the pretentiousness alone should knock it down to a 7

Rockmage has read every single poem he put zero's on.
It just took him this long to realize that they were all crap.

A zero is just a ten without the ego. Besides, base ten is highly overrated. In binary, everyone with a 10 still sucks.
