Despair (Free verse) by marjan
Through passages dark and cold I called
Beauty once aloud, so desperately
shouted I that the echo Was satanically blank.
I doubted the answer was pretty sad,
But went still on,"the next will be glad." As the night
deeper in air and me sank I heard a churchbell out
trembling rang, With hands pushed in pockets
Out of the overhallowed catecomb I sprang;
Saw the owls kissing children's little tombstones Saw
Nature's Beauty smiling on broken bones. So hours passed
in darkness dark, I waited still...a sight I
had heard Would overjoy my heart;
Sunrise! that's the thing you want!" It rose and
smiled...I parted my lips There in church'es yard,
a nun had sat couched On a garlanded grave,her cheeks wet
with tears... I sighed and turned my back...
There was something wrong with me that
In each beauty blended I saw A note of"
Down with Hell."
