carpet (Free verse) by thing1
barefoot
in the summertime
lounging
on the couch
listening
to Sparrow
Kitchener
Jam Band
and Bob Marley
the sun comes in
through
the window
at the top
of the entertainment unit
tunneling
to the love seat
under
the kitchen table
a thick august air
fills
the family room
with a pine fresh scent
which flows
into each pore
of four patio screens
humid sticky air
bounces
off the soft carpet
and through the kitchen railing
tiny orioles
spending
this season
in my brown birdhouse
whisper
sweet songs
in my ear
getting up
to do a little dance
to the kitchen
to get
a cherry popsicle
from the freezer
going down
the purple plush
in between
my toes
as the tingling
feeling lingers
while i lie
back
on the couch
listening
to Sparrow
Kitchener
Jam Band
and Bob Marley
eating my cherry popsicle
barefoot
in the summertime
