At The Edge of Sleep (Free verse) by GregDeEgg
A single tone At the edge of sleep Playing over and over; Singing over and over Between my ears where it can never be shut out. Funny thoughts At the edge of sleep Words I learned before; Things I thought before “What the hell is a ply and how does it mean toilet paper?” Silly questions At the edge of sleep From the child inside me; Acting wild inside me “Are you asleep yet? Play with me; na-na-na.” Sudden answers At the edge of sleep When gray matter is untangled; When my thoughts are untangled “A ply is a single square and you’re killing trees.”
