My Instructions or My Tongue In My Cheek? (Free verse) by Patsy
Do not visit me in the afternoon.
i will associate you
with Sunday Jazz and think you
pretentious,
obvious,
blatantly announced.
If you visit in the evening,
i expect you will have something
any one thing
to show for yourself
bring me a husk,
a cirrus,
a knoll, then bring on the twilight.
Visit me at night,
i will be glad,
i will give you keys
if you give me a constellation
(but do make sure it's new,
i can't stand them hand-to-hand).
Visit me early.
Sensing news,
i will regard you as the sun
and receive you accordingly.
Unsure of appropriate tributes to such
such a guest, i promise
to feed you
and fill you up with my dreams.
