Surreal (Free verse) by wordontheverge
In other lifetimes we share possibility
I might see you there
Luggage in hand
To take me away
To a distant memory
Flying fish over crystal seas
Caribbean
Refusal to get stuck in average territory
I remember you perfectly
Like artifacts exhumed from my heart
Tomorrow seems like forever away
A journey towards a world simple
Where good friends don?t die
And love doesn?t disappear
We get along because we know
The next day exists
As detached as we may feel
Amidst saccharine proposals that persist
Sun rains down like melted wax
Many approaches unapproved
Because I am scared to make a mistake
To take back my self-indulgence
Alone
Achieve unknown status
The real world we?re in doesn?t like the truth
Or poetry that sounds bitter
Like survival
Maybe next time we?ll be able to rise above all of the seasons
Reason our way out of addiction
Love is a poem I keep in my head
For another day.
