Santa At My Steps (Free verse) by tarik
Crack! Silence... Woken from Christmas Eve sleep. My heart thuds rapidly echoing through my body. I feel a new presence in the house, But of course! Its Christmas night! Santa Claus is here! Creeping without a sound to peer around the corner, A distant red figure among the shadows, Near the Christmas tree. I stand soundless to gaze at the cherry red silhouette, Swish! Silence... Anxiously looking to the nearby bedroom My sleeping sister stirs in her slumber. I exhale with relief, Glancing back down the moonlit hallway Absence... The shadowed figure is gone. Santa has spotted me, And left. I must get back to sleep! If not, Santa shall not return. I tread swiftly into my bedroom and into my bed. And doze back into the night. Awaiting sunrise. Crack! Silence... My eyelids gradually expose the blue of my eyes. Morning.
