Storm Over Gypsy River (Free verse) by Skamper
a tangled sweat of naked legs runs along a sulking river swollen and tempting garbled rush to fill the oceans castoffs rage for purchase trees reach higher with new found release dying limbs amputated by currents and torrents alike metal casing amplification of the pat pat pat force fingers to react untying knotted sheets river raises its gurgling voice demanding a place within events roaring past hammering ears and eyes occasional blindness fat rain flushes over naked flesh in bumps and ripples heat drips a constant chill – bladder and veins empty and fill darkness rumbles a quieting sigh the river expands - as expected a final rush of lifeblood and fluids retreating – teasing - understanding in tropics' sweat we meet the fierce - the afraid and in smoky dampness - part
