mystery (Free verse) by jlanza
Love I thought it was He made me laugh He made me smile I waited for it The ringing of the phone I'll let him wait I thought It rang again And I grabbed it up His voice And I was back The flirty Cute Sexy Unreal me He didn't know Why not lie? It can't hurt Right? So that's how it went Everynight almost And then it changed It wasn't fun Not like before His voice changed I guess I did too More serious So special Like a dream Or a nightmare But never I thought Would it happen Not that I thought back I remembered Mentionings Doors locked Ponytails Nails and knives Lies Sleeping Stories So many stories I still had weeks God the stories! Then I didn't have weeks Just days Oh no! Marriage Kids Rings How had I forgotten Cheating Second chances Abuse? Oh no, never But, what if? No! No no no! Please Then there it was Yes, a ponytail Of course Why not? He hadn't changed But I didn't know He hadn't stayed the same The phone rang Just once this time I opened my eyes Almost cautiously I answered the phone I could feel my heart Pounding, pounding His voice Then my heart Pounding, pounding Then I was there Standing at the door Like a barrier A guard Dare I? Dare I tear it down? I had to Slowly, slowly One step Then another I pushed it open And he was there Before I knew His arms around me My heart Pounding, pounding I led upstairs Keeping slight distance It was night Why did it have to be Night? In the room Side by side Too close Once again A hand On my cheek Tenderly Too tenderly Then more So much more And soon It was over Completely And I was left All alone And there The phone sat Silent Forever more
