Illumination (Free verse) by MacFrantic
I wrote a letter to the sun To keep your smile intact And while I coaxed the moon to show You laughed to turn it back In my haste I dropped a star It fell so fast and streaked so far Lucky you, while looking up, To watch the swirling heights Caught a twinkling, burning gem That blazoned in the night Don't be frightened when you sleep Amongst the demons of the deep Just roll that diamond in your head Until the blackened curse has sped With a wish and fast good-bye I'll send you off to paradise To promenade with every soul That kept you warm in grips of ice And someday when you feel alone Incomplete or weak and tired Pull that star from out the attic Hold it near and feel its fire To you, my friend, on this, your day I give you hope to light your way
