In sickness and in health (Villanelle) by Schlinkey
"We will, in sickness and in health", they said,
Their eyes alight with rev'rent love and zeal
And hell did feast as heaven shrunk with dread
Resplendently he stood, his eyes ahead
Beside his wife to be, her charm unreal
"We will, in sickness and in health", they said
He nodded stately to his guests, the dead
She flashed a dimple at her father's squeal
And hell did feast as heaven shrunk with dread
The priest wore black to hide the tears he shed
As words not his confirmed the final deal
"We will, in sickness and in health", they said
O' time itself stood still as vows were read
Aghast as it cried out its last appeal
And hell did feast as heaven shrunk with dread;
For day turned night as Pure and Vile did wed,
And doing, so they crushed the holy seal
"We will, in sickness and in health", they said,
And hell did feast as heaven shrunk with dread
