For My Muse (Free verse) by woodstock20000
The pungent scent of his hair
filled my nostrils
as I struggled to search the dust-laden books
off their worm-worn shelves
from my poor library of a head
Haggardly writing down verses
to remember the smell of his cologne
blended with sweet perspirant on the shirt
I had hid into
All the while, I hear that
poor under-payed
inner librarian of mine
desperately praying to Mnemosyne:
"Dear lady, I forget so very much,
but please just leave me
this
as clear as glass and I will be
forever thankful..."
As his chest
slowly
rhythmically
weighted onto mine.
"Dear lady, I forget so very much,
but please just let me remember
how the light pouring
on his face
made him look like
a carefree farmboy
leaning on an time-worn tractor in a
barren field"
As I looked into
those comforting
grey blue (or was it blue grey?)
eyes.
"Dear lady, I forget so very much...
but I beg of you"
Don't let me forget him.
