Dreams of Nothingness (Free verse) by MacFrantic
Clay men dance outside my wall
I fear the muse they bring
In my bed I lay unsteady bones
I clasp my ears in case my brain
Should leak upon the floor
Fast I curse the rythmic clay to stone
Dreamt a scowling Jack of Hearts
The collapsed eyes deceive
My wake shall give a path of city light
I wander on the eve of death
Into the street I stumble
My eyes are squinting in the sunny bright
Across the way I see the door
The darkness of my sleep
From where the horrid clay men promenade
And in it smiles a laughing Jack
His crooked sneer pretends
Invites me to the earthly bed I've made
