A place that is ours, but never was Kind hands have stayed the hours here Sounds of the street ascend and fade The one I love lies near I sit at table and think and write And listen to footsteps below The house is settling for the night But still, I seek to know The green-swathed walls of our attic keep Remind me of someone I used to be The church bell tolls each hour anew And now, my dear, I turn to you A fellow journeyman on a quest Our paths have joined, and here we rest
