A Midnight Call (Free verse) by amanda_dcosta
Just imagine hearing
A voice within you say
âGet up, itâs time. I want you to
Get on your knees and pray.â
I looked at the clock in the faint moonlight
That shone
Through the partly open window.
It was way past twelve;
I scarce could believe
I was in for what one would call hallucinations.
It beckoned me in firmer tones
To get down on my knees.
More out of fear not obedience
I gave in to its pleas.
I prayed five decades of the Holy Rosary
And then heard the voice again
âThere is someone out there who needs your prayers
And feels My peace flow in.â
It took me a while to go to sleep
Feelings of excitement and awe took hold of me.
I really prayed, didnât I?
During the following day I became inquisitive
And kept wondering who this person might be,
So out of curiosity I phoned all my friends
To unravel this mystery.
Alas, the day went by and it was almost sunset.
I walked down the road and met up with an old friend.
I hadnât met her for a couple of years;
And while talking I casually asked her
âBy the way, when is your birthday?â
âItâs today!â she exclaimed! âWhy do you ask?â
Ah, I was getting somewhere!
âAnd how is your day treating you?â
âIâve had the most odd feeling
The whole night through
I felt that someone was praying for me.
And I sat up and prayed a whole Rosary.
All the weeks worry that burdened me
Seemed to vanish instantly.â
I smiled and said a silent prayer,
âThank you Lord!
Iâm glad I listened to your call.â
