Fading Memory (Free verse) by longships
A lonely existence, memory fading,
Canât recall the number on my door,
Canât remember the names of my neighbours.
Letter writing non-existent,
Pick up the phone.
Never set eyes on a good book,
Watch TV.
Silence is unheard of,
Stretch my legs with a stroll to the shops.
Nicotine stains my lungs,
Alcohol sears through veins.
I feel a nothing among millions,
Just another name on a file,
With unemployment a first choice in jobs.
Despair tears at my memory,
A cold tear spells no hope.
Senses fix to the noise and fumes of passing traffic,
Though, now, Iâm used to it,
Iâve forgotten through the years.
