Letting Go (Free verse) by longships
The night sky glowed with summer stars,
I recalled our first night of love in that strange bedroom.
The first time I said, âI love you.â
As we lay upon the bed.
We loved, laughed and cried in the months that followed,
I felt joy as never before.
Alone, I remember the day we parted, the day I said, âgoodbye.â
Silent tears hold back behind a façade,
I miss your gentle caress, our nights of passion,
Words of comfort,
We didnât feel the candle flicker,
Denied the truth that our love would end.
An ever-smiling face carried new life into my thoughts,
Her short sharpness left me breathless.
My fingers stroked blonde hair,
Bright blue eyes entranced me.
Music flowed, I felt loveâs birth within her,
And still I had to go.
Into the night of a thousand white eyes,
I never said the words, âI love you.â
As I broke from her embrace.
Unsure of my feelings,
I still miss her closeness in the loneliness of my bed,
Alive to nothing but silence.
Emotions overflowing with love, and still I cannot say.
Love is selfish in the eyes of those in love,
I hope for our sake, I can feel love too,
As I gaze up at the stars Iâm left with above.
