I Remembered, Upon Waking (Free verse) by Alizarin_Crimson
I had walked in accidentally
on my two sides; they were arguing
I should not have seen them,
but a crack appeared, and I followed it
down, down, down
to the furnace room
with a great, dark shuddering
There they were:
an insatiable Me, and
a Me who played servant,
pulling the subconscious dangerously thin
I should not have seen it
I was a man
who wanted everything
And there was my double,
a frightened girl, serving him
on the outskirts of my mind,
something frantic in the both of them
he watched her commandingly, while
she piled his plate high with bread
the hunger only increased,
it picked up like a sharp wind
He turned to begging
with palms to the sky
trying to make sense of so many limitations
He snarled at her,
she sighed to the walls
her arms stopped, dropped beside her waist
lips parted, doubtful
this apparition of myself,
knowing her work was even yet, beckoning
she looked me in the eye;
I have found where my frustration hides
I should not have seen it.
