An Old Friend (Free verse) by Dovina
I see youâre still tall
after rain and mud
holding firm
where you where born
May I recline with you again
rest in your cool shadow
your harmonized song
with the Breezy Blue-jay Band
Whenever I come
your tough hide,
gentle touch
and soft breathy words
alleviate the pain
A faithful refuge
in spite of your wounds
Giving is you
shade though sunburned
protection though broken
Summer will be hard
Good to see you, old friend
Letâs talk again soon
