The Romance of Death and Winter (Free verse) by peaceseeker
"all the world needs
in this life is compassion,"
said the girl, as she
then became a woman. . .
"but in my dreams,
i am the victim of murder,"
as she spoke out,
once in for all, for all. . .
"and in waking,
a lovely rastafarian
smiled and stared me down
until i wanted to talk to him.
he said that it had
been a long time,
if I knew what he meant,
and he saw me and. . .
he had been in federal prison
for ten years for drugs."
she was ill from his stench,
grounding as it was. . .
"and while healing two cats,
i heard a woman's screams
in the streets for several minutes,
i looked but
could see nothing, so did nothing.
on my way to the store,
i saw a disheveld man and woman.
looked through the glass door
they entered and saw his face,
covered in blood. he opened the door,
said, 'oh, it's okay, dear.'"
but in her dreams someone
is threatening her with a gun
and in one of them, there is
a bullet lodged where her
throat meets her chest.
there is little blood, but she can
not speak her heart.
while riding her bike,
the freezing wind
freezes the spot
where the bullet
was lodged in her dream.
