The Wandering Jew (Free verse) by Lifeboatman
Memories of Eden are imprinted in my DNA Like the color of my hair Or the size of my pigsticker But I wish that I could Trim its edges like circumcision The desire to go back is eating through me Like maggots on a piece of white cheese And I'd do anything to go back I once killed a brother for it And was left with a terrifying mark I will not be harmed, They said I told you... Like maggots on white cheese To taste that fruit of sex And carcinogens and baccarat, I once punched a king for it And was twice cursed I will not be harmed, He said ... maggots on cheese To see the world atop its mountains Like so many gem-encrusted carpets, I once sunk a continent for it I have the mark, they said I will not be harmed, they said ... maggots... cheese To swim in its pristine waters, I once insinuated great wars for it I have the mark, they said To run across its wide fields, I once plotted ecological disasters for it I will not be harmed, they said To smell the mixed scent of its morning, I once rigged a quiz show for it I have the mark, they said I will not be harmed, they said I am slowly turning into a fly With a yearning for a taste of honey I have been a farmer, a priest and a mortician I have been a sailor, a pimp and a pediatrician I've donned every costume made on every culinary delight on Halloweens And have pulled off every prank thought of during celebrations of April Fools BUT I HAVE THE MARK AND I WILL NOT BE HARMED!!! ... I cannot even harm myself And I am so tired I was tired two millenia ago I just want to go home
