Hard to Swallow (Free verse) by LuckyJoe
Give that being looked for, A simple gift to adore, No greed, asking for nothing more. Can’t handle the news, Unwrapped emotions of happiness, Happiness held for you while feeling the blues. The truth sometimes hurts, Seeing you other than here; That’s more than was bargained for. All fears just came knocking, Opening the door they look within my eyes, Lump of grief, too large to swallow.

Down the ladder: a skinny man on the dock
