A Sonnet For Maria (Free verse) by Anemone
What sweetness a rose But compared to you it pales A rose has beauty and scent Does it convey a message of love Nay, it is a scent, an object Ethereal but it cannot love Nor does it speak in a thousand ways Language of the body and mind How magnificent is life, with you Within it's bounds in earthly ways Love from you is like the rose And a thousand times more For you love!

This doesn't fit the sonnet form. Why the title? Ref. Shakespeare's rose sonnet? This actually seems to be a backhand insult -- if a rose cannot convey love, then the lover's love is a 1000x nothing.

I normally don't like lovey-dovey poems but this one is beautiful!
