Night Slips By Dusk (Free verse) by rick
Night slips by dusk like a panther Poised and silent with deadly precision... A small boy runs home Racing the warmth of dinner And the sharp blows of his fathers hand Dinner rest uneasily in the pit of his stomach Outside leaves sail freely On the cool damp breeze of autumn Rattling fear and excitement into the childs drifting thoughts.... Monsters Tanned and bleeding Reds and yellows Bellows In heaving gust Beating hearts Startled Torn apart Gnarled and twisted Now the monster sees him And closes in Sword unsheathed Rage unleashed Strike back small boy, strike back... Morning slips by dawn like a lion Proud and humble with a disciplined hunger The small boy sleeps warmly under blankets As trees sway steadily in their firey dance Hope is a rainbow of foliage Burning into yet another day

Up the ladder: Lupus in A Minor
Down the ladder: Top of the World
