Drinking Gravel (Free verse) by antoniojl
We drank gravel, Or at least, I tried. The stones flow easier, they say, When the tide's high. The tide was high, And the sun was outside, Just burning down the sky, But inside, behind this burning sky, In this high tide, I drank gravel. Or I tried. She smiled, and I tried smiling, But from all the stones in my stomach, churning, I coughed, throat burning, From gravel, and learning That I cannot be as high As the tide.

Up the ladder: you soften me
