Game Over (Free verse) by Etter72
Understanding is important to be content. I am so tired now, so much energy has been spent. Passing foes with sadness as I look in their eyes -- Hatred-filled stares as part of me dies. So why is this happening? Do I deserve the regret? Who's fault is it that there's lasting pain in each step? I walk down the terribly yet excitedly crowded hall, As people pass me smiling, without a single care at all. Is it my fault, now, that I'm too jealous of them to wonder, Anything other then why it is me who so pointlessly suffers? Someday I'll realize that it would be better to just leave the fact That what's happened is over, and I can't take any of it back. But today that just cuts deeper into an endless gloom. "What's happened is over," but it won't end soon. As I stare at a blank page that leads to the rest of my life, I close the book, to end this unwinnable fight. For the final time I look in the eyes of the pathetic posers. I delete every picture I ever saved to that online folder. Glance back at the people with whom I was always much closer, Mutter "goodbye," pop the pills -- Game over.

Up the ladder: cold war
