Just today (Free verse) by MacFrantic
Just today, I made a game. I gave that game a simple name. The game was right and I was proud. All was set, so I was loud. From the rooftops I exclaimed. To passers by the rules were framed. And joy abounds! a crowd was formed. All below were welcomed, warned. So the masses laughed and leapt. To the set of laws they kept. And they were right, and I was proud. I said goodbye and then I bowed. What a game! It was all the rage. I'd laid the seeds and set the stage. Dreams of hope swirled round my head. The night grew long and I crept in bed. In the morning, something's wrong. The people in the streets are gone. I knock from door to door in worry. Then from down the street they hurry. All at once, they spill and gasp. Their faces curl and fingers clasp. The rules were broken in just one day. They ask for me to let them play. I give them no forgiveness there. They should have let the game stay fair. So in the street, I soon was slain. The people made new rules again. They broke the old and praised the new My game was brilliant, so it grew. There are those who play and boast. They preach the rules but stray the most. Only now am I ashamed To have unleashed this twisted game. Players deviate and nod. They cheat on themselves in a game called God.

Up the ladder: How rifted
Down the ladder: The Mirror
