new year (Free verse) by teenborg
I sit on the floor holding my head Rocking backwards and forwards Gently sobbing (so the neighbours can't hear) The festive tinsel glitters Where it has fallen from the tree Well, fallen......where you ripped it down Because something made you cross It seems to happen a lot lately- Not that I blame you, my love It's just something that I make you do- A little trigger sets you off And I am powerless to help All I can do is wait until you have calmed down Then you tell me sorry and everything is ok I feel I cope better these days What do you think? Just thinking aloud- I wouldn't dream of bringing this up I care about you so much- I know you know I do Today seems a bit different I hurt a little more than usual I'm not sure if I can actually get up At least my nose has stopped bleeding You'd be annoyed if you saw that Cream carpets were not the best buy, were they? So- where was I? Yeah, on the floor still rocking and hurting I miss you so much when you leave You understand that.....don't you? It's nearly midnight- my god, it's New Year's Eve I hope my friends won't worry too much I'm sure you gave a good excuse Perhaps they have an idea what may have happened We try to keep this a secret But bruises and broken bones show We spend a fortune on replacing broken china too! Jesus- let me try to stand up You will be home soon and things must be put right I expect you will be hungry- I couldn't manage a thing Look at this mess....it shouldn't take too long to clear I learnt long ago to just hide it away Time enough to put my makeup on too You like me looking pretty Wow- the fireworks are going off They look so beautiful tonight How I wish you were here with me now Just to see the New Year in together Instead I'm trapped alone In our war torn home Lamenting my battle scarred life.

Up the ladder: DISTRUST OF LOVE
Down the ladder: Coventry nights

"Cream carpets were not the best buy, were they?
So- where was I?"

It made me feel pretty sick, this poem. So I guess it's a good poem.
