The Day Habeas Corpus Died (Free verse) by Wakeboarder20
So I heard someone somewhere can do something with Mr. Habeas. It's bad if you're a terrorist and the government wants you or something like that. Anyway, did you see Emmit? Boy, for being a big guy he sure can dance. I had a thought the other day but gave it up to watch tv. I think it was about human rights whether they’re still here or not or something like that. But who cares, this reality well it’s not as good as tv reality. Definitely not as important. So Mr. Habeas passed away. I don’t remember what he did. Something with bad people. Anyway, he’s long gone now. I wonder where I was the day Habeas Corpus died? Wasn’t there a baseball game on?

Down the ladder: Nothingness haunts ...

I don't know why you argue that this poem has any subtlety. It doesn't. On the plus side it isn't too shoddy. I dont like the 'not as good as tv reality' line. I think it would work better if the narrator were watching something specific.
