Drink and Swirl (Free verse) by MacFrantic
Drink and swirl! Sink and pearl! Never came close to the ivory girl Lying in wait by the door at the bar I settle and simmer and choke on the stars Here I wonder What became Of ladybugs and picture frames White picket fences grow up from the grass White picket fences and columns of glass Drink and swirl! Wink and hurl! Came to the part where the pelicans curl To my dismay I could see the illusion Talking of rainbows and nuclear fusion If I must Today I'll play Beethoven's fifth on a cherry red sleigh Apologies spat from the mouth of a goose Apologies spat become tight like a noose

Superb, except for the final two lines which didn't seem right - I'm not sure why though. First five lines of each stanza are genius :-)

Odd but oddly beguiling. What's a picket fence?
