untitled Rubiyat 1 (Other) by starkfister
History has been written by wizards Who shape mankind's path like ceaseless blizzards They had powers great and vast And where said to resemble giant lizards All knew their reign could not last And they would fade away into the past So they made a lasting mark That would leave us all aghast Around the world dogs bark And grown men were afraid of the dark In the sky a red light shone Silencing even the bravest lark It chilled the people to the bone Their old swords they began to hone Anything they could do to prevent The construction of the hideous throne Mass destruction was their bent They gave none time to repent They sliced men open from gut to gizzard To create a historic event

Down the ladder: sweet surrender

the Rubiyat is a traditional form of persian poetry, following the AABA BBCB CCDC DDAD rhyme scheme. it can go longer of course, as long as the last stanza ties into the first on the 3 line. you get the idea.

Of course, in English at least, the form works better if the three rhyming lines are of the same length...

yes, things generally work better when you do them right.
