first poem of the new year (Free verse) by that_funny_girl
This is my first poem of this year though I suppose it is more a rambling reflection of thoughts I have been collecting in my thinking jar than true poetic form. No matter, let it be what it will be. So I was thinking, (as I so often do) And this time I was thinking shouldn’t I have a bit more to show for this year than I do. Ask me what I did this year - and I don’t have an answer. I will scratch my head, and sort of ummm at you for a minute and them lamely respond something along the lines of - well I went to school -. (And I also ate and slept and inhaled oxygen. ) (Amazing, I know.) It seems somewhat pathetic really. 365 days . . . that’s a lot of time to get something done. But what did I do, I ask myself. - Well Megan my friend, I seem to have on record, that we wasted all of our time doing nothing. - (This is what I say to myself.) Ouch. Kind of harsh. But it's the truth I remind my self you didn’t get something done. And now it seems to be that all those tomorrows have flown away and I am left with a whole new year to dream away. Oh sure, I will promise myself that this will be the year I realize all my dreams pursue all my hopes. But, just between you and me, let's get something straight. It’s not gonna happen it hasn’t in the past, and I haven’t changed so why would my future? So - here's to a new year, - and though we cant properly predict what will happen in this new year just between you and me, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

A "rambling reflection of thoughts" is how a poem can start.
