Shades (Free verse) by Niphredil
Majdanek was never deserted. its barren timbers ring with footfalls those of the living come to look, and cry, and leave And by their side the silent ones treading the rotten floorboards noiselessly.

Up the ladder: thaw

This poem was written after a visit to the extermination camp, Majdanek, in Poland.

For the context, I thought the first line was stunning. Good parallels between living and dead. I felt like I wanted an image after line two - something in keeping with the 'barren timbers'/'rotten floorboards' theme perhaps. Other than that, no quarrel.
