A smile (Free verse) by Bobjim
People smile when they are happy. People smile to make others happy. People smile when they want something. People smile to hide sadness. People smile to hide guilt. People smile from nervousness. People smile from aggression. What then is a smile?

It's a thing that you do with your face, when both corners of your mouth are upturned and the middle of your mouth is relatively relaxed. Sort of. Maybe.

Reminds me of a poem I wrote in the second grade...

It has no imagination once so ever.

Very true. It's probably the same poem.

This might be a riddle, but can you explain to me what there is about it that makes it poetry.

Given some of my other stuff, what makes you think it tries to be poetry?
