Why I Do What I Do (Free verse) by TLRufener
You ask me why I like to hold your hand I have to think if I should tell you Just exactly where I stand I pause a little bit To find the right words to say I must choose carefully So I don’t scare you away I tell you that I like it And that I like you This is just the beginning Of why I do what I do There is more underneath the surface Things that I cannot yet say I like you far too much To say what I really wish to say You say you can’t do this That you don’t want to date a friend Because they never seem to work out And everything is bad in the end I understand the reasoning And that is a fear of mine too But the biggest fear I have Is my fear of loosing you Instead of diving forward And confessing how much I like you I will hold back my feelings Until you feel this way too I have liked you since we met Such a long time ago And I now know that no matter what I will never be able to let go I wish I could tell you Every feeling that I hold But that would be way out of step And quite a bit too bold I wish we could be more than friends But since you’re not ready to I will hold onto all my love And wait patiently forever for you
