Princess (Free verse) by TLRufener
Your family loves you Your subjects adore you And everyone knows your name You are always at court Or dress like a queen Every day passes just the same Ball after ball In your extravagant gowns Always wearing a smile on your face All the glittering jewels All the flowing silks Accent your unfaltering grace After the banquets When the guests Have gone home for the night No one sits with you No one holds your hand Or tucks you in for the night The stars shine down From the sky above To your lonely window pane Tears slowly drip down Your precious cheeks In your world it only rains All day long You play a role Wondering when it will end All night long You cry alone Then wake and repeat your play again.

Up the ladder: The ceremony of death
Down the ladder: A Post of Winter

I wish I were a princess so I could at least have good food and be waited on. As it it is I just get all the guff this good poem mentions.
