The Little Girl (Free verse) by Torok
She kept the light in her bedroom a'burning, For fear that the dark should close in, Her hand cushioned her jaw, she was wishing The light, never to dim. She saw the light go! In his eyes Still, like stone As he lay On the ground A sudden truth that struck her cold! and though she wept, she never told.

Up the ladder: Falling Away
Down the ladder: Cold Indifference
