Cargo pants (Free verse) by tre

I was just a girl in cargo pants, a hang ten t-shirt, and a blue backpack. I walked into class. I walked in late. It was nighttime. Maybe that set the mood. You spotted me immediately. I stood out to you like a sororiy girl at a punk concert. Why do I remember the minute details of that day? How you told me that you called your mom and told her, "I met this beautiful girl from Atlanta." Or did you never tell her that at all? I ate up all your lines like candy. You fed them to me well. But, I never understood why you wanted me. Or so you said you did. We were opposites. I was the mis-matching fool with a scrunchie in her hair, You were the die-hard athlete with chlorine in YOUR hair. I was water, you were oil. We didn't mix. You weighed me down, seeped into me. Get the fuck off of me! Let me breathe. I'm not right for you. Because I'm just a girl in cargo pants, a hang ten t-shirt, and a blue backpack. And boys like you don't belong with girls like me.
