Twenty Cigarette Burns Ago (Free verse) by DurtKL

He burned His intials into his left chest with twenty cigarettes, each circle was varnished By sweat and JD. The pain was incredible. Justifying every breath taken Since the first one; Twenty cigarette burns ago. Tears formed in her eyes When she saw the bubbling blisters formed over burnt black flesh. That stretched scar on her stomach ached as it did that day twenty years ago. The same tears that Flowed from her eyes Twenty cigarette burns worth ago.

Love the title and the repetition of it works well in contrast with the poem. Some good stuff today on here 8
